Institute for Health and Development
Health and development provide the essential foundation for the well-being of both individuals and societies. The understanding of human health has changed from definitions based on an absence of disease, to defining health as a biopsychosocial phenomenon characterized by a dynamic interplay between psychological, biological, and social factors across the life-span. This broader view of health and disease brings into focus the promotion and maintenance of mental health – one of the major public health challenges of industrialized societies.
